AJHL update - Jan 4th-9th

[Very much still under construction - but I posted it for a day or so now and will actually at least re-update regularly now until it finally is complete!!! I have got to get this done tonight... got to! I do have to go back and badly edit dates... because I probably refer to any given day between Friday and now as "today"... hehe!

I'm making a very bold statement - but I plan to complete this after the trade deadline moves are finalized on the AJHL website hopefully at 9am. I may am posting a blog post of all the trades not listed here yet, from Jan 10th so far listed right now though. i will not be changing the link to this post like I did last time, to make it the newest post. It alters the link, which buggered up things sourcing to it.

Very bold statement of the day: It WILL get completed tonight (Jan 11th) Jan 14th, here and now!!! - it MUST!]

Okay, here it is in it's [soon-to-be completed,] final glory, as I will not edit it again after it is posted. My by far - most viewed and most belated post to day (I'll be more than happy to never have another belated one too! Haha!). Yes, I am not kidding 1 bit - it is 100% finalized! My extreme apologies for the wait... it was a mix of unable to focus post-break after getting home, and a real strange quickness to fatigue. It might be a slightly minor health issue causing it... but regardless - this is finalized! The 11th-13th post will follow soon after and I am REALLY HOPING to get a quick 14-15th update I've started, posted before I finally get to bed tonight here (16th, 2:54MST). Anyways, apologies for the mass amount of crossouts and I hope I didn't leave any "yesterdays" or "todays" that could badly outdated while this post took forever to complete. I hope this makes sense, and my apologies if some might be a bit confusing... but enough yapping, let's get this thing officially completed and updated one final time, and pass the link out on Twitter.

To save time, I'm reluctantly/unfortunately going to forfeit the game summaries (Sorry!), but will post and hyperlink all the scores. I also have stopped adding in archived moves/current moves onto EP and will updating them after some sleep, off of a list I started. I've got to get this week long catch up post done already, after all... and with the pattern I've been going on, I seem to get less caught up than new info there was to add - therefore it not only got harder to finish, but also would take longer by each passing day!
- - - - -

Last 2 3 4 SIX nights of scores (put it this way... I could not focus to accomplish anything from being so extremely overtired from 3 straight under 8 hour sleep, nights - and had a long sleep Sunday... hehe! Sorry for this post being so late because of it! Okay, the amount I've accomplished the last few days is anywhere between ridiculous and pathetic... I've had a horrendous time getting my focus back after the week and a half of getting next to nothing done. Sure I've had a very pleasant great distraction a lot of the time lately... but still - time to get back to work, in a huge way!!!):

  1. Crusaders beat Fort McMurray 4-0 in Sherwood Park.
Monday, the 7th was a rare day off.

Tuesday, Jan 8th (because by the time I finish this post, it would be pointless not to include the 7th in this too... haha!):

  1. Eagles beat the Calgary Mustangs 3-2 in Canmore.
  2. Bandits beat the Grizzlys 6-0 in Brooks.
  3. Thunder beat Sherwood Park 2-1 in a shootout in Drayton Valley.

Trade update (look under Jan 8 & 9, 2013 - as this season's moves may likely be archived to different link after this season) - others not yet listed on league transactions link are with team notes below:
1. 08-Jan-13: The Spruce Grove Saints trade the CHA rights of LW #18 Jason Wark (39GP 14G 12A 26Pts 109PIM) and future considerations to the Flin Flon bombers (SJHL) for the CHA rights of [former Oil Baron] LW Kevin Lacroix (29GP 5G 17A 22pts 14PIM w/FM; 4GP 0G 0A 0Pts 0PIM w/FF).
2. 08-Jan-13: The Brooks Bandits acquire the CHA rights of RD Eric Chevrier (32GP 1G 3A 28PIM w/Surrey) from the Surrey Eagles (BCHL) for future considerations.
3. 08-Jan-13: The Lloydminster Bobcats trade the CHA rights of RW #9 Casey Knight (40GP 6G 21A 27Pts 78PIM), Jason Wark (listed above, in secondary trade) and Riley Kieser (player rights as he's with Vancouver Giants currently w/42GP 5G 5A 10Pts 21PI and a -6) to the Spruce Grove Saints for the CHA right of C #18 Liam McNamara (38GP 2G 4A 6Pts 28PIM), LW #19 Mitch McNamara (35GP 3G 8A 11Pts 6PIM) and future considerations.
09-Jan-13: The Grande Prairie Storm trade the CHA rights of LW #19 Marc-[Etienne] Drapeau (37GP 17G 13A 30Pts 30PIM) to the Sherbrooke Cougars (LHJQ) for future considerations.

As for the Drapeau  move... I presume it is because of his pharmacy school being close by so he may be able to continue player hockey - but the way I originally heard this, he was going back to school and it didn't sound like he would be playing hockey for the rest of the year if not here. The plans could have easily changed though, I guess.

Suspension update (besides the Dylan Thudium suspension listed in my last AJHLpost), per the AJHL discipline link:
January 8, 2013 - A review has been completed on a hit which injured a Bobcats player during a January 5th game.  Although no penalty was called on the play, video was very clear in showing that the hit was a major penalty for checking from behind.  Drumheller Dragon player, Bryton Mills, has been suspended for three (3) games as a result of this incident.  The suspension is to be served during the Dragons’ next three (3) regularly scheduled League games.
January 3, 2013 - Sherwood Park player, Ryan Kruper, has been suspended for two (2) games as a result of being assessed a major penalty for kneeing during a January 3, 2013 game in Olds.  The suspensions are to be served during the Crusaders’ next regularly scheduled League game.
January 2, 2013 - The following players have each been suspended for one (1) game, as a result of being involved in a secondary fight during a January 2, 2013 game in Ft. McMurray:
  • Drumheller player –Adam Danyluk
  • Ft. McMurray player – Zach Whittenburg
The suspensions are to be served during the respective teams’ next regularly scheduled League game.
*LW #11 Bryton Mills is eligible to return Jan 19th. F #22 Ryan Kruper is eligible to return Jan 11th, F #22 Adam Danyluk is eligible to return tonight after missing last night's game to play, and as I posted on last AJHL post (well, 2nd last now as I changed the order by reposting this one differently) - RD #21 Zach Wittenburg can return to could have returned to play Sunday, and probably did... but I will get to that hopefully later yet (and do in the Fort McMurray changes section).
- - - - -

Now, the rest of the updates... again, like last time I got backed up and combined posts (I've got to try and get my hours stabilized now that I'm back home with less to distract me with - ie. 6 month old hyper, ADHD-like, loving, playful kitten), I will list the teams' changes again in alphabetic order. Now that the WJC's are over with - I should be able to get back to hopefully regular daily updates for the AJHL. Eventual goal: to actually get to something either than the AJHL - like the OJHL & MHL trade updates even though I no longer updating those leagues (which I may as well just combine with post D-day trades now hey!), try to add in all the inter-league trades in the EOJHL (E Ontario Jr B) to help a new EP staff member get started, work on AMHL stats & MMJHL stats from last year along with this season's... etc etc etc.... anyways though!

Bonnyville:
*LW #12 Christian Nypower must be healthy (was out with "Undisclosed injury, out indefinitely" - though on reserve) and back playing... he played on the 4th for Cold Lake Ice (NEAJBHL), and was up playing for Bonnyville on the 5th, but hasn't of yet played since then on either team.
*#-less G Josh Bykowski from Vermilion, has been added as a Pontiacs reserve player. He is currently playing for the Lloydminster Bobcats Midget AAA (AMHL) team.
*#-less RD Brett Magee, who I believed started the season as a reserve for the Pontiacs (he was definitely on before I started added reserve/AP listings as transfers on EP, for archival purposes... somewhere around October), was recently removed from the Pontiacs reserve roster. Here his AJHL profile with last year's stats row.
*LW #11 Jackson Dudley - now listed as out with an upper body injury, for 5-10 days, since Jan 5th.
*RW #89 Ty Carey - out day-to-day with an upper body injury, as of the 4th.
*RW #25 captain Locke Muller - [was] out day-to-day with an upper body injury as of the the 5th, but played vs Storm Friday.
*D #6 Redford Swan - [was] out with day-to-day upper & lower body injuries, as of Jan 4th, but played vs Storm Friday.
*LW #28 Brady Bakke - I am not sure if I made an error, or if an updater maybe shortened the injury by 2 weeks... but, I had him listed as "Lower body injury, expected back by January 31st", but 4-6 weeks from date of injury should be Jan 3rd-17th. Either way - I'm going with this current projection, unless I hear otherwise.

Brooks:
*LW #17 Anthony Petruzzelli - back from injury (Upper body injury, expected back Jan 1st-15th).
*RD Marc Chevrier - given #25 for the Bandits.

<<<I hate to say this, but my eyes are closing and blurry and I cannot keep going... as as tomorrow is an off day thankfully, I will continue this after a long sleep - apologies again for the wait. It's now 4:10am MST and I think unlike the last few days, I need to have a good sleep at night now>>>

Calgary Canucks:
*It appears the Canucks likely released soon to be 21 year old LD #5 Ryan MacPhee, as his profile is now hidden/inactive. I'm not finding anything to confirm or dispute it, his Twitter gives no hints, and Google searches come up empty. He was out day-to-day with a flu, last I updated his profile.
*G #31 Andrew Guglielmin (whose name is surprisingly easy to remember how to spell), is out with a day-to-day knee injury as of Jan 4th. As I posted in the yet-to-be-posted Jan 11th[-13th] post draft message... the Canucks have their top 2 goalies out with day-to-day injuries now... "... this team seriously has no luck this season! Luckily for them, their presumable 3rd stringer (as he's the only reserve G with any playing time) G #1 Jeff Orser, has the best goalie stats on the team in his 2 games played (see stats)."
*LW #25 Keith Csizmadia, is out indefinitely with a broken thumb. It was backdated to Dec 18th.
*C #27 Willy Sakal, has been back from "Collar bone injury, expected back by January 8th" since Jan 5th.
*RD #7 Owen Johnson, was back down with the Calgary Buffaloes Midget AAAs (AMHL) for the 9th.
*More recent LD #7 Jake Dube, was up playing for the Canucks on the 5th. Like what appears to be everyone else in the AMHL, will likely be playing in the UFA Bisons Midget AAAs (AMHL) game today Jan 12th.
*LD #36 Nicholas Herman, was back in the Calgary Buffaloes Midget AAA (AMHL) lineup on the 9th.
*RD/F #5 (was #40) Erik Kardash, was up like Dube and playing for the Canucks on the 5th. Unlike what seems like every other team playing, his midget AAA team - Calgary Flames Midget AAA (AMHL) - actually has today off, but are back playing tomorrow Sunday (13th).

Calgary Mustangs:
*Mustangs have added a new G today, picking up Travis Beekhuizen, as my esteemed EP colleague Brian Wiebe posted on EP; from the Beaver Valley Nitehawks of the KIJHL, per a tweet from the Nitehawks. In 13 GP for Beaver Valley he had a 3.44 GAA and a .900 save %.

Camrose:
*LD #5 Mark Nerland was up from the UFA Bisons Midget AAAs (AMHL) on the 4th and 5th and played both nights.
*F #22 Robert Cain was up from the Leduc Oil Kings Midget AAAs (AMHL) and played for Camrose on the 4th, and has been back playing with the Oil Kings since the 5th.
*F #8 Ryker Leer, who was a pre-Xmas callup for the Kodiaks, was back with the Red Deer Chiefs Midget AAAs (AMHL) on the 5th and played.

Canmore:
*Thanks to a source involved with the Eagles, I found out that after occasional Eagles backup and currently still an AP/reserve, G #39 Forrest Ayearst, was de-listed by the Cochrane Generals (sometime as late as Dec 3rd, when I posted it on EP), he was picked up by the Chestermere Jr. C hockey team playing out of the Calgary Jr. C Hockey League (CalJCHL on EP - league unfortunately lists nothing but standings post season or during season, not even rosters or game sheets... so I have next to nothing for it on EP). But yeah, now with this knowledge I'll be archiving in recalls for his backup appearances since the Cochrane release.
*LD #7 Clive Rozdeba, was up playing on the 8th, but hasn't played anywhere since to my knowledge. His Midget AAA team, the Calgary Royals Midget AAAs (AMHL) are off until Saturday the 19th.
*RW #12 Jordan Reviereturned from injury (as I had on EP: "Upper body injury, expected back for games in January"), January 5th.
*Other G #39 Ryan Ferguson, went back to Calgary Royals Midget AAAs (AMHL) for game on the 5th.
*Pre-Xmas holiday callup LW/D #7 Colton Sandboe, was back with the Grande Prairie Storm Midget AAAs (AMHL) to play on the 5th.

Drayton Valley - I've got to say - holy crap, have they ever made a move up the North standings! Sure, the Storm have 3 games in hand on them both (like they have had on most of the North division all season) them and Bonnyville are now in the 3 way tie with the Storm for 2nd. Those games in hand only really count for anything if you win, though, of course (I crossed that out mainly because it's badly outdated... haha!). Anyways, Thunder changes/moves:
*LD #4 Tyler Hart, returned from injury (Undisclosed injury, status uncertain) of Jan 4th to play.

Drumheller:
*We had an anonymous tipper on EP post that RW #37 Tanner Kissick was gone off the Dragons, but it was not as to where, nor having a source. Initially as I've been keeping crazy busy, I ignored it with no source as is common on EP for transfers - but likely between the lines said tipper was saying "come on man - just check the Dragons roster"... haha! So I finally did look, and sure enough, he is off the rosterHis Twitter gives no real hints either - he's not all that active on there. Wow... he hasn't played since Dec 5th - got to wonder if he retired from injury... cant find any new stats from him anywhere!
*At this point I have no idea where G #26 Brandon Stone disappeared to... am asking a source if they know. I can't find him on any searches, and there's too many Brandon Stone's on Twitter for any luck there either, unfortunately.
*Stone disappeared, and instead of G #31 Garrett Storms (who's yet to have appeared on his midget AA team's game sheets yet in 2013, KC Colts of the NAMHL) as the backup for G #31 Adam Beukeboom for the 4th straight game to start 2013 - newcomer G #30 Etienne Roy joined the team, previously with Abitibi Eskimos of the NOJHL and got the start and win for the Dragons Wednesday.
*D #19 Matthew Sozanski, was up and played for the Dragons on the 4th & 5th, and was back with the Calgary Buffaloes Midget AAA team for a game Wednesday night.
*Most recent #19, F Rory Davidson, played Wednesday for the Dragons, up from the Red Deer Chiefs Midget AAA (AMHL) team. He will likely be here in GP tomorrow (well later today, depending on how you look at it.. haha!) at 3pm for a game against the midget AAA Storm.
*LD #6 Tristan Thompson, was also up Wednesday playing with the Dragons, from UFA Bisons Midget AAA (AMHL). He will also likely be back down with the Bisons tomorrow, but instead in Lloydminster.
*C #38 Dustin Gorgi was also up playing with the Dragons on Wednesday, from the Red Deer Chiefs Midget AAAs (AMHL). He will also likely be back with his midget AAA team tomorrow for a game against the Southeast Tigers, in Medicine Hat..

Fort McMurray:
*Albertan LW Jetlan Houcher was acquired from the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL in exchange for LW #24 Danny Gayle... . Houcher has 5G, 5A in 35 games, along with 4 PIM, so far this season, and formerly played for the Saints, as an AP. Houcher has since been assigned #24. I'll be personally interested to see how Houcher fairs back home in Alberta - I paid fairly close attention to his just about 2Pts/Gm season last year in the AMHL for his local midget AAA club - the Lloydminster Bobcats Midget AAAs; not to mention being over 2Pts/Gm in his final AMBHL season.
*According to a Tyler King article in My McMurray, there's a pending trade to send F Doug Jones to Drayton Valley, but it has yet to get league approval. it also speaks of the above trade - trade was later accepted and finalized by league on Jan 10th (in Jan 10th moves post).
*According to Tyler King's twitter, F Jordan Clark has been switched to an affiliate player card, so the Oil Barons could then go down to then, 1 over the 23 player trade limit. He's also been assigned #15 for the MOB, and is currently listed on the MOB's AJ roster - as mentioned by Kinger, as an AP.
*His de-listing as a reserve/AP could easily have only been done by accident before, but #-less LD Mitchell Kearney has been re-listed with the MOB on reserve roster as an AP.
*RD #21 Zach Wittenburg's 1 game suspension was finished being served by the Jan 6th game, so he's been back in the lineup since.

Grande Prairie - yes, I actually have more info on the Storm somehow... last post 2nd last post (I believe it was) was incomplete:
*Through talking with now former Storm D #27 Tyler Palmer, I found out he asked for a release from the Storm and was granted it. He only dressed for one game for the Sexsmith Vipers (NWJHL) on December 15th, and is now on the Grant MacEwan University roster of the CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, or more specifically, the ACAC (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference). He is to play his first game with the MacEwan Griffins tonight, wearing #26.
*#-less callups RW Jeremy Kostiuk & G Nick Crisanti are back in Calgary, set to likely play for the Flames Midget AAAs (AMHL) Wednesday, along with LD #6 Allan MacPherson, whom I know went back to Calgary as early as Saturday (the 5th).
*Storm were reassigned LD Riley Van Horne from the Brandon Wheat Kings also (besides 2 trade deadline acquisitions) - tweeted by many, but I've got to go with team source, even though the tweet was a chopped one.
*#OlderThuds W #21 Dylan Thudium's suspension has now been served - he's eligible to play tonight (Jan 11th) for the Storm.
*#YoungerThuds (aka - C/RW #26 Chase Thudium, who took over LW Jake Matkin's old #), was back with the Red Deer Chiefs Midget AAA (AMHL) team for a game on Jan 5th.

Okotoks:
*D #6 Kolton Dixon, has been back up with the WHL's Victoria Royals, since their Dec 28th game.
*LW #14 Eric Krienke, was called up and played for the Oilers on the 4th then later on the 9th, but will likely be back with the Calgary Northstars Midget AAA (AMHL) team for their game Saturday.
*C #18 Matthew Forchuk was up and played on Jan 5th, but will likely be back down for Saturday's game for the UFA Bisons Midget AAA (AMHL).
*Most recent #18, LW Jack Goranson, was up and played Wednesday, but like just about every other Midget AAA callup - he will likely be down and playing... well, today - Saturday, for the Red Deer Chiefs Midget AAA (AMHL) team. I guess it's late enough for me to call it the proper day now... haha!
*LW #22 Colton Sheen was listed as out with a 4 week lower body injury as of Dec 31st, so basically he's expected back by Jan 28th.
*C #25 Tanner Ockey, is now listed as out 4 weeks with a lower body injury as of Dec 11th, according to AJ Oilers roster (in other words he should have been back by Tuesday). I believe the information I received from Gino De Paoli (at least I'm pretty sure he is who I got this different information from) suggested a return more between Jan  9th-30th, so as he is still out I will stick with what I am pretty sure I got from Gino.

Olds:
*LW #17 Chase Paylor has been traded to Alberni Valley. It was tweeted at 9:24pm MST. As listed in the article, "So far in 2012/13, Paylor played in 35 games with the Olds Grizzlys and scored 6 goals.".
*F #14 and also Grizzlys captain, Bart Moran, is out with injury. As I put it on EP, "Upper body injury as of Jan 5th, out indefinitely".
*RD #18 Matt Hanger, out with injury also. As I put on EP, "Upper body injury as of Dec 18th, out indefinitely". I know for certain this had to of been backdated at least after the Grizzlys last 2012 game as I would have caught it sooner. It was likely listed after the Xmas break, and due to me being so far being currently, I'm only mentioning it now.
*D/LW #26 Chaydan Lauber, was a pre-Xmas holiday callup, but was back in the lineup with the Southeast Hounds Minor Midget AAAs for their game on Jan 4th. He was back up playing with Grizzlys on the 8th. He's going to stay on active for a bit on my end, as the Hounds don't play again til Saturday.
*D #24 Cale Brown (formerly #24)... now he's of interest to me, and I'll get to that shortly - but he was back playing with his HJHL team, the Mountainview Colts, on Jan 4th. Hmm.. I just noticed, Lauber wore #26 on the 8th, yet currently on the Grizzlys active AJ roster Brown is listed with #26 (as of Monday the 14th at 3:08pm... yes, I know I'm updating a post from/for games 5-10 days ago... I do know how horrendously behind I am... haha!)... hmm, I also just noticed that Brown has not yet played for the Grizzlys in 2013 but is on their active roster. So it's best to make a screenshot to link the move to on EP.
Okay now, this is going to screw up the already buggered time warp I have going between posts now... but for the simple fact Brown has not played in the HJHL nor AJHL since Jan 5th with Mountainview, I am going to post this move to EP as for right now (Monday, the 14th at 3:15pm). But also, if a person was really paying attention (this is why he was of interest to me, above) they will notice that Brown is no longer listed as an AP on the Olds AJ roster (see above screenshot)... I don't know if it was perhaps an accident by an updater or perhaps the Grizzlys did add him for the rest of the season. But for now, as far as I'm concerned, it's the later and I will be noting it on EP also. Hmm, now that I think about it, it is looking like I knew of Brown's # change before Xmas but never changed it on his profile's jersey # currently, just in another part of the profile saying "Also wore #24 for Olds in 2012-13 prior to Dec 22nd game." as seen on his EP profile. Before I forget... of course the 4 stars (****) after his name on his HJHL profile could mean just about anything, my theory/guess is that it's there to say he's 'left the team' for the Grizzlys... but that's just a guess, more or less. Could mean anything really - but it definitely is likely it's due to him being fully carded.
*F/RD #42 Austin Kernahan, has been back from "Lower body injury, out indefinitely" injury, since the 4th and been in the lineup since.

Sherwood Park:
*LW #12 Braedan Farge, was up & played on Jan 8th. He was back playing with his Midget AAA team, the MLAC Maple Leafs Midget AAA (AMHL) on the 10th.
*RD #25 Nick Charif, was up playing with the Cru on the 8th also, from SSAC Athletics Midget AAA (AMHL).
*C/LW #26 Evan Polei (originally listed on reserve as #23 prior to being called up this season), was called up and played for the Cru on the 8th.
*Earlier #26 C Darcy Zaharichuk, was up and played on the 6th, from Sherwood Park Kings Midget AAA (AMHL).
*RW/D #12 Aaron Tiessen, was up and played on the 6th, from the Sherwood Park Kings Midget AAA (AMHL).

Spruce Grove:
*RD #4 Clayton Kirichenko, who I mentioned (in an earlier post) was not at the game vs the Storm last Saturday, and was in fact back with Sherwood Park Kings Midget AAA (AMHL) that night.
*RW #14 (was #37) Tyler Mrkonijc was up and played, and contributed offensive in the 2-0 win over Fort McMurray on Wednesday, as I first found out about from a Saints tweet that night. He was up from the St. Albert Raiders Midget AAA (AMHL) team. I suspect he's already back home to St. Albert, and will likely be in the lineup for the Raiders in their game tomorrow.
*As mentioned in a different Saints tweet, D/F #4 Cole Nicholson was also up Wednesday and also figured in their scoring - up from the Lloydminster Bobcats Midget AAA team (AMHL). He's also all but back in Lloyd for their game tomorrow night as well.
*Not a real surprise, but recently acquired currently #-less C Riley Kieser, has been added to the Saints reserve roster. I'm not sure if this necessarily means they think he might be assigned from the dub (Vancouver Giants) this year - they're just usually the team in the league that best utilizes the reserve roster function on their AJ roster. But I don't know... I just personally felt like adding the assignment to the Saints as a possible rumour on EP, regardless.
*Since I've last updated the Saints, their updater(s) added/confirmed the injury to leading scorer C/LW #9 Dylan Richard - the official as of Jan 4th was a 3 weeks upper body injury, but as Travis Ziegler told me himself it was a shoulder injury, I'll go with that. So officially expected back by Jan 25th.
*I should have added this a while ago as the game were here in GP (this is how badly far behind I am... haha!), but C #10 Sammy Spurrell has been back since the Saints first games of 2013 (as said before, here in GP), from "Upper body injury, status uncertain (expected back by December 8th)".
*Same story as Spurrell for D #21 Carson Soucy, besides that he's back from "Lower body injury, expected back by January 8th".
*LD #22 Corey Chorneyko, is out for 3 weeks with upper body injury as of the 5th, so expected back by Jan 26th.
*Don't believe I've typed it elsewhere yet, but newly acquired LW Kevin Lacroix has been assigned #28 for the Saints. I believe LW Ryley Bennefield was the only one else to wear it this season for the Saints.
*Former #14 Kevin Yasinski, who was up playing in the Saints last game before Christmas, was back with the Grande Prairie Storm Midget AAAs (AMHL) on last Saturday (5th).
*RW #20 Jarid Hauptman, now listed with the red cross on the Saints AJ roster (as of, at least now, Monday (the 14th) 7:46pm MST), and to me it says: "Lower body injury suffered Jan 9th, expected back Jan 16th"

Whitecourt:
*As the Whitecourt updater I know informed me - Joey Bouchard (Wolverines GM/head coach - whom I currently have limited info on) updated the Wolverines roster, and the updater was able to add in that their backup G Friday was G #1 Anthony Hamill, along with he being able to add in C #89 Charles Inglis' stats on his newly added AJHL profile for Friday & now Saturday as well. Hmm... and it seems it was a one night gig for Hamill, as a familiar face returned to the Wolverines lineup last night well, Wass did not even dress... he had to have been in Whitecourt as an emergency backup... more about him a little further down, but... my Whitecourt stats updater friend, has informed me that Wass did not dress that night and it was actually Spruce Grove Regals (CapJHL) G #1 Cole Saunders - who I mentioned later on. I am too tired to try sorting the ordering of the players better now though.
*G #30 C.J. Wass, up again from the expansion Fairview Flyers (NWJHL). Who knows... the Wolverines now need a #2 G (after  for the rest of the season (unless they're going to have an AP callup every game... which sounds like a bit of a very strange idea) - maybe this time he really will be staying in the AJHL for the remainder of at least his AJHL eligibility (as the age limit is 22 in Jr B). Apparently not though according to a Thursday tweet of his - he's kind of living out of a suitcase now. So, he did not dress from what I was told (Hamill Friday, Saunders Saturday), but Wass must have been up with Whitecourt for those days according to his tweet. He was in fact back with Fairview Flyers (NWJHL) on a weekend set of games in Slave Lake.
*Wolverines just picked up another Q player this morning, as my esteemed EP colleague Brian Wiebe posted on EP; adding C Jess Tanguy from the Rimouski Oceanic of the QMJHL. They must have gave him an "offer he can't refuse" - for a guy with 33 points in 31 games... it sounds hard for me to believe he would be so willing to just walk away from major junior, nor does it sounds feasible (unless there was player/personnel issues) that the team would want to part with him... but who knows the exact circumstances.
*Yet another Q player for Whitecourt just went on Twitter that Brian Wiebe also caught before me (I barely even check Twitter lately keeping so busy - so it's not surprise to me) - G Anthony Terenzio, who apparently has not played any games this season (was with Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL), has been added to the Wolverines. Wolverines are doing extremely well at picking up Q players - definitely have not meant any disrespect about their Q signings, just pointing out how many they've been able to land... and usually very high quality players that could probably still be playing in the Q - therefore they have to be drawn to Whitecourt somehow, after all. Joey Bouchard (Wolverines GM/head coach) is doing everything he can to help the team - and kudos to him!
*Current G #1 Anthony Hamill - was backup for the Wolverines on the 4th, back with his Midget AAA team the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (AMHL) for the 5th & 6th, then back up at backup for tonight.
*Former G #1 Cole Saunders was backup the 2nd last game for Wolverines, up from the Spruce Grove Regals (CapJHL) per the Whitecourt updater I have been in touch with (though I am aware, that the game sheet currently only credits one goalie for the game - G #31 Tanner Kovacs); and Saunders was back playing for the Regals on Sunday. I believe Saunders became the 4th #1 G the Wolverines have had this season... Kris Drott, Jared Rathjen, Hamill, Saunders, then Hamill again. I could very well be missing one or have missed one too, though - but I am pretty sure I have all them.
*Pre-Xmas callup LW #5 Jacob Schofield, has been back playing with the Red Deer Chiefs Midget AAA (AMHL) since Jan 5th.

***** Note to anyone reading these posts: If you come across any player out of date sizes and/or even with stats missing for bantam & midget especially (few leagues list peewee stats, even fewer have I gotten closer to adding peewee stats for) and you know of them or have a source for that missing year(s) - feel free to comment here or Twitter and I'll get them up as soon as I can. I know there's a lot of AJHL vets that have missing early years of stats, as in the early years on EP I wasn't aware of the league stats & archive sources I am now. So it's kind of a continuous project, when I come across guys with out of date/missing early years - I update them in and fix it proper as soon as I can. Just something to keep in my - I will most certainly appreciate the help there!

- it MUST!]

  1. Age limit 22 for jun B since when? If you played on that team at 20 you can play 21 NO? You make comments about players coming from QMJHL for Whitecourt, what does it matter isnt a gm job to ice the best possible team with same import rules same 20 year old rules etc??? Seams your trying to make something out of nothing! Look what Whitecourt started with a team had 9 wins, do you find that acceptable? But then again you will say players are bought, owner has lots of money bla bla bla!!! Enjoy most of what you write but common quit jumping on the easy bs non factual stuff!!

  2. The age limit is 22 for Jr B for as long as I've known... NWJHL has players up to turning 22 in the late spring & winter.

I definitely meant no offense about the Wolverines - just was noting the sheer # of QMJHL players they are signing. Of course a GM has to do their best to build a successful roster - and that is a real challenge after a rough last season in St. Albert. No question there at all! But seriously - a guy just doesn't leave major junior, with over a point per game as a forward (Tanguy) - like nothing.

  3. Jayrox you need to realize that the Q has 3 - 20 year old rule, Alexander Lavoie was picked up by ramouski just minutes before the deadline they then released Jess Tanguy, at that point options for 20s are limited, coach Bouchard has alot of family friends and connections down east.... What are people going to say when the import rule is outside of Canada only? its happening...this team in wct isnt being bought like jealous people want to say it is, the owner is 35 did he buy his way to success? no and he didnt inherit it either he worked his ass off and build a big safety company,,,, well hes doing the same with hockey team... its so unfortuante that people want a failure story instead of sucess story! Jayrox why cant you guys say wct has built a great team from what at albert was? look at there 94 group! look at how many players 18 and under? like i said before i enjoy your hard work and writings for the most part keep it real bud and keep up the good work....PS junior B 21 age limit if you played on team as a 20 year old lol looked it up

  4. Yeah, I definitely know about the Major Junior rules about 3 20 year olds. It's just surprising though another Q team or even O or dub team wouldn't want/try to pick him up though hey, with his really productive season. But hey, like you said - if the guy (Bouchard) has connections - it really explains a lot about the ability of him/the Wolverines in landing so many Q players! Thanks for mentioning it - I definitely will keep that in mind, as I was unaware of it.

I definitely haven't meant to come across as 'ripping' the Wolverines, or the success they've had most of the season. No many would have thought at pre-season that they'd manage to lead the North Division at any point this season. Even Chris Colwell said something similar to me while in the GP press box. I definitely cant deny they've built up a good team out of the ashes of last season's Steel team!

The team has went through a rough last few months though... I believe they were 6th at one point not long ago, in the perennially strong North Division.

Thanks for the kid words about the blog, definitely appreciated! Love hearing feedback too - constructive criticism is never a bad thing either.

But, you are incorrect about the Jr B limit, as I suspected. First team I checked - Beaverlodge Blades of the NWJHL, has a bunch of 91s on their team - therefore turning 22 before the end of this season, as I suspected. Brad Stanek (http://www.eliteprospects.com/league_home.php?leagueid=218) from the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks, turns 22 on the 23rd for example: (http://www.nwjhl.com/leagues/rosters_profile.cfm?clientID=4594&leagueID=15654&playerID=846255&teamID=344876&pos=D). I believe their 22nd birthday has to be after January 1st, or they are not eligible to play from the start of said season.

Last year's Jr. B Wolverines for example (http://www.eliteprospects.com/team.php?team=5089&year0=2012), had 4 players that turned 22 before the end of the season or following summer or fall (1990 birth years), including: Dion LeBlue, Mason Lyle, Mitchell Rose and Ryan Whelen.
